"Arlington Miami" Set Up For Memorial Day

A special tribute to those who gave their lives for this country was set up along a section of Biscayne Boulevard over the Memorial Day weekend.

The display – dubbed "Arlington Miami" – consists of thousands of grave stone shaped markers over nearly two blocks representing Americans who have died in Iraq.

"By doing this, people can see, okay, there are real costs," said Simon Rose with Democracy for America which set up the display. "This takes us two city blocks, they start to put things together and talk about things and that's really the idea behind."

The display catches the attention of both residents and visitors alike.

"It's ridiculous, it's absolutely ridiculous how young some of these are and to me, being from Canada, it's a war for nothing," said Ashley Douglas.

"It just makes me sick to my stomach knowing that these guys are dying for oil, really, and we need to get them home as soon as possible, I think," said Tom Pearson after observing the size and scope of the memorial.

"Well, I think we should have gotten out by now," remarked Miami construction worker Gary Edwards, "that's for durn sure, and this is just a sad consequence of it."

Among the organizers of the "Arlington Miami" display are veterans who say opposing the war is not the same as opposing the troops, and the best way to support those serving overseas is to bring them home.
